Privacy Policy
Your progress stays on your iPhone unless you create an account. Polly has no ads and no tracking, and we never sell data.
Polly (“Polly English”) is made by brikks studio, an independent developer. This page explains what data Polly processes, why, and how to delete it.
Without an account
Your topics, word progress, XP, streak and settings are stored only on your iPhone. To show the catalog and play pronunciation, the app downloads topics from our server and audio from Wikimedia’s and our servers, which see technical request data (IP address and time).
With an account
An account is optional. It backs up progress, syncs it between devices and lets you create topics. If you create one, our server stores:
- your email address and, if you signed up with email, your password as a secure hash;
- your name, if Google or Apple shares it at sign-in: it is shown as the author name on topics you publish;
- progress: your topics, the state of each word (new, learning, learned, known), review dates, XP and the days you finished a round;
- a log of answers in rounds (which word, exercise type, right or wrong and how long it took), used to schedule reviews;
- topics you create and reports you send;
- technical request logs (IP address, time, requested address) for a few days, for security.
If you sign in with Google or Apple, that service gives us your email address and, optionally, your name. Apple lets you hide your real address and share a relay address instead. We don’t store profile photos.
What others can see
Topics you publish are visible to all Polly users together with the author name (or “Участник Polly” if there is none). Your email, progress and private topics are visible to no one but you.
Why we use data
Only to make Polly work: sign-in, sync, reviews, your topics and moderation of public topics. We don’t use data for advertising, don’t combine it with data from other sources and don’t share it with data brokers.
Services Polly relies on
- Our server, a virtual server rented by brikks studio, stores account data, topics and audio.
- Sign in with Google or Apple, only if you choose it. Their own privacy policies apply to what you share with them.
- Wikimedia Commons hosts the human pronunciation recordings the app plays.
- Expo (EAS Update) delivers app updates and receives technical data: IP address, app version, platform and a random install ID.
- Apple distributes the app and, if you allowed it in iPhone settings, shares crash reports and anonymous usage statistics with us.
Retention and deletion
Account data is kept until you delete the account. In the app, open Profile → Delete account: the account, progress, your topics and reports are removed from our server and your iPhone right away. If you can’t open the app, email us from the account’s address and we’ll delete it.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction or deletion at support@brikks.pro.
Security
Connections to the server use HTTPS, passwords are stored only as secure hashes, and each account’s progress and private topics are visible only to that account.
Children
Polly is not intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
